School Counselor

Welcome,

My name is Russell Ball and I am the school counselor at Harry S Truman. I get the

opportunity to work with students individually, in small groups, and as a whole class.

Something that I enjoy is being able to teach lessons that address specific social and

emotional skills and skills that support successful learning. This not only gives me an

opportunity to get to know all the students as learners, but also ensures that I can

provide direct instruction related to life-long learning skills. My goal, as the school

counselor, is to build positive relationships with the students, families, staff and the

community.

Some of the lessons this year will include the following topics:

*Counselor Introduction: Who I am, what I do, and where you can find me.

*Personal Strengths and Differences

*7 Habits of Happy Kids

*Compliment: What compliments are, why they are important, and practice giving them.

*Empathy: know how to share or understand the emotions and feelings of another

person. Someone may need to have a certain amount of empathy before they are able to

feel compassion.

*Problem-solving: Knowing the differences between big and small problems and

reviewing the difference between tattling and reporting.

I encourage you to contact me with any questions or concerns that you may have. I am

at HST on M-W-F and at Bess Truman on T-TH. Together, we can make this an AWESOME
year for our students!
